Located near Karuvarakundu in the Malappuram district. It’s about 6 km from Karuvarakundu town and around 12 km from Kalikavu. The falls are inside the Karuvarakundu forest range, part of the Western Ghats.Name Origin
The name Keralamkundu literally means “pool of Kerala”. Local belief is that the natural rock pool formed by the falls resembles the shape of Kerala on the map.Features Height: Water cascades from a height of about 150-200 feet in multiple stages.Natural Pool: At the base, there’s a deep natural pool formed by the force of water. The pool is surrounded by rocky cliffs.Setting: Located deep inside a forest area with rich biodiversity. Surrounded by evergreen trees, rocks, and streams typical of the Silent Valley foothills.Water Source: Originates from the higher reaches of the Western Ghats. The stream later joins Olipuzha, a tributary of Chaliyar River.Best Time to Visit
June to January. The falls are fullest during and right after the monsoon, June to September. Post-monsoon months Oct–Jan have good flow with safer access. Summer flow is low.Tourism & Access Trekking: You need to trek about 1.5–2 km from the parking area through forest path to reach the falls. The trail involves rocks and small streams.Entry: Managed by Kerala Forest Department / Vana Samrakshana Samithi. Small entry fee and guide charges apply.Safety: Swimming is risky due to depth and undercurrents. Flash floods can occur during heavy rain. Forest Dept usually restricts entry during peak monsoon.Timings: Usually 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
